Lydia Ko has been quite impressive in recent LPGA events, however, with her latest win at the CME Group Tour Championship, she proved to be a level above everyone else. Ko picked up the biggest LPGA event cheque last night with the win. However, her heartwarming emotions following the final shot are creating more buzz.

The Kiwi golfer has been an unstoppable force in recent weeks. She claimed the BMW Ladies Championship last month. And now Ko won the concluding event of the LPGA season.

Lydia Ko came to the final day at the Tiburon Golf Club at the top of the leaderboard. However, she maintained the lead at the top, claiming her second CME Group Tour Championship.

For the final shot, Ko had a comfortable putt, following which everyone began congratulating her. As she began hugging everyone including her caddie as well as her competitors, she couldn’t contain her tears. In the video, the 25-year-old’s emotions could depict how much the win in Florida meant for her.

In the final round, Lydia Ko defeated the Irish Leona Maguire by two shots. She took control with a seven-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole, and she finished with a final score of two-under 70. The win in Florida was no regular event win.

How Rich is Lydia Ko? Exploring Her LPGA Career Earnings

The seven-figure cheques are rare in women’s golf. However, with $2 million in prize money, it was the biggest cheque won in the LPGA event apart from the Majors. Nonetheless, the win was meant much bigger than the $2 million for Ko.

The win also claimed the Kiwi the Rolex Player of the Year award. Moreover, Lydia Ko also recorded the lowest scoring average of 68.988, winning her the Vare Trophy. Her scoring average was the second all-time, only behind Annika Sorenstam’s 68.70 in 2002.

Ko ended the season with three wins, out of which two came in the final three events. She starts the next season with high anticipation and hopes to end her six-year-long wait for a third Major title win.
