How much did Wyndham Clark win at the Wells Fargo Championship? 

The Colorado-born pro was certainly on cloud nine yesterday, considering that he had won his first-ever Tour title at the Wells Fargo Championship. He shot 68, four under par, on Sunday to claim his four-shot victory over the 7-time PGA Tour winner, Xander Schauffele. 

The moment Clark hit his winning shot, a bogey putt on the 18th, he struggled to hold back tears. After all, his victory has been long overdue. In three of the last five events that he’s played in, the pro has finished in the top six, narrowly missing out on the win. And just last month, he claimed a third place finish at the Zurich Classic.

Who Is Wyndham Clark’s Caddie? All You Need to Know About His Relationship With John Ellis, a Former Golfer Turned Looper

The purse of the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship was worth $20 million, and had been increased by nearly 122% as compared to last year when it stood at $9 million. In 2022, Max Homa took home a whopping $1.62 million home after claiming his victory at the event, but this year the deal was far sweeter for Clark.

The 29-year-old winner won a massive amount of $3.6 million with his first Tour win. The check is even greater than what the 2023 Masters winner, Jon Rahm, took home last month!

According to Sports Illustrated, the runner-up of the Championship, Xander Schauffele, won more than last year’s winner too, with $2.18 million, while Harris English, who finished in third place, also won over a million dollars and walked away with $1.38 million. 

Clark’s stellar performance during the final day at Quail Hollow 

Despite having an injured knee, now-world-ranked 31st man, opened his final round with an amazing two-shot lead. Clark began his first round with an unfortunate bogey, and Schauffele’s beautiful birdies on the third and seventh holes saw him overtake the recent winner momentarily. Things were looking bleak for Clark, and he seemed to be crumbling under the pressure in the first seven holes, failing to make a single birdie.

But Clarke refused to give up! When Schauffele’s slipped par at no. 9, the 29-year-old found his chance. Thanks to his birdies at the 10th and 12th, he was able to take back took back his lead and find new confidence. And with the last six holes remaining, World No. 31 was up by four, which he maintained till the end. And despite not having a picturesque finish with a birdie on the last hole, Clark’s stellar bogey at the 18th was more than enough to help him seal the win.
