In fact, not all of them are ready to accept the new rules in the ranking system, not even the ones at the top. Tiger Woods’ former coach reveals his thoughts on the OWGR system

Numerous professionals gave their reactions toward the new OWGR system. While many were against the updated rules, others thought it was really good for the field in every tournament. PGA Tour loyalist Rory McIlroy stated that it was “a much fairer system” and was based on “pure numbers”.

However, World No. 3 Jon Rahm, who considers himself the best player in the world, does not find the system worthy to be followed. “I think the OWGR right now is laughable,” he said. Even golf legend Tiger Woods was not in favor of the new format and called it “a flawed system”. Having a similar approach like the GOAT, his former coach recently gave his views about the system.

CBS Sports golf writer Kyle Porter recently tweeted, “Of the top 24 players in the world who are eligible to play the Phoenix Open, 23 will be in attendance. That’s a major-like strength of field.” While many Twitter users said it was not going to be anything like a major tournament’s field, Hank Haney questioned the entire OWGR system.

In a tweet, Haney wrote“Based on what ranking system? OWGR? If that’s the list then 23 of the top 24 golfers in the world aren’t competing at the Phoenix Open.” It was clear that the golf superstar’s former coach was not in support of OWGR’s new ways of operation.

Rahm, who is among the top three players in the world, thinks he deserves to be number 1. According to him, the new system is responsible for hindering his rankings. On the other hand, McIlroy, who still sits at the first position globally, has no issues with the system. According to Porter’s tweet, 23 out of the top 24 players on the world rankings leaderboard will participate in the Phoenix Open. And he mentioned that the one player that won’t attend the tournament is Will Zalatoris, who is ranked No. 8 in the world.
