Abu Dhabi Championship 2025 venue history

Yas Links represents the first true links golf course in the Middle East. The course’s development started in 2007. It took three years before the course was completed and opened to the public in 2010. It is designed by renowned designer Kyle Phillips and is ranked among the top golf courses in the Middle East.

Phillips is a distinguished golf course architect with over 30 years of experience. He started working alongside the legendary Robert Trent Jones II in California before starting his own company in 1997. His work spans more than 30 countries on five continents, designing over 30 courses. Phillips’ exposure to many classic links and heathland courses throughout the British Isles and Europe greatly influenced his design philosophy. This philosophy is reflected at Yas Links Abu Dhabi.

Kyle Phillips transformed the area from desert to lush links by using millions of cubic yards of sand dredged from nearby marinas. He then installed Paspalum turf to create natural contours similar to classic links courses.
