Things are heating up as the race for the top spot in the ATP Rankings gets interesting. We have current World No. 1, Novak Djokovic, hoping to secure the top spot for the 7th time in his career. In doing so, he will be the first player to achieve the feat.
The only player who could stop Novak Djokovic is the player who beat him at the US Open 2021, Daniil Medvedev. The Russian player was the only player to beat him in a Grand Slam event this season. He beat him in straight sets in the final. Medvedev stopped Nole one stop of creating history, of winning the Calendar Slam.

Daniil Medvedev is Novak Djokovic’s challenger
At the moment, both players are in Paris as the top two seeds. However, the chances for Djokovic to secure the top spot are less difficult as compared to Medvedev knocking him off. A lot of it depends on whether if Novak loses in the initial rounds.

Speaking about Paris, both these players practiced with each other prior to the beginning of the event. If all goes well, they will meet each other in the finals of the Rolex Paris Masters 2021. However, Djokovic could meet Tsitsipas in the semifinal if they sail smoothly in the initial rounds.
