Former Indian cricket team captain, Sourav Ganguly trolled ICC and ECB when the match between India and New Zealand at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 was washed out due to rain.

Sourav Ganguly revealed on Live TV during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 that the Cricket Association of Kolkata (CAB) imports the covers from England. Those covers from England cover the full ground at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Ganguly suggested that ECB should also start using those cover for shielding the whole ground from water at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

He also said that it would be cheaper for the authorities in England to start covering the full grounds. He divulges that the CAB has to pay taxes to import those covers. However, ECB will not have to pay those taxes and the covers are made there only.

The match between India and New Zealand at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 was abandoned without toss due to rain. However, the match could have started or at least the toss would have happened had the ECB used the covers for full ground as earlier the toss was also delayed due to wet patches on the ground. When the rain stopped and the weather looked bright at 5 PM IST, the umpires went in the field for introspection.

However, the umpires were unhappy during the introspection due to wet patches in the outfield. The Super Soppers were doing their job continuously but still not enough to dry the outfield quickly. There was a delay due even when the rain stopped.

If the ECB would have covered the whole ground with covers, the match would have started earlier. The pitch was not a concern for the umpires as it was fully covered but there were plenty of wet patches on the ground which looked unpleasant.

The Indian skipper said that the team was disappointed to not get any match against the Blackcaps in their third match at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

He said, “Disappointing not to get any game time at all. From the players point of view and where the teams are placed, it was better suited not to take the field when it is not safe to play. Don’t want an injury at this stage. We’ve been playing some good cricket, we’re not too worried about where we stand. Having two wins does give you confidence. A couple of practice sessions and we should be fine. It’s only about getting game time and that should happen on Sunday”
