Isaac Cruz Steps in to Fight Gervonta Davis – Who Is He and What Is His Record?

Gervonta Davis was set to take on Rolando Romero on December 5. The fight promised to be an extremely fiery showdown at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. However, Showtime pulled Romero out and replaced him with the IBF #2 contender Isaac Cruz, a Mexican boxer.
Isaac Cruz agreed to step in and fight Gervonta Davis on Showtime PPV. Initially, Cruz was the favorite to fight ‘Tank’ Davis before Showtime ultimately chose Romero. Now, the Mexican will look to make the most out of his lucky break and prove his worth against the divisional champion.

‘Rolly’ Romero maintained his innocence in face of the allegations. He said, “Although the allegations against me are totally false and I will prove that through the legal system, I agree that it is in the best interest of everyone involved that I not participate in the upcoming pay-per-view event. After clearing my name I will return to the ring as soon as possible.”

Who is Isaac Cruz?
Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz is a 23-year-old lightweight contender and the #2 ranked IBF title contender. He faced former champion, Francisco Vargas, in his last fight in June.
Cruz was already in line for a shot against both Davis and Teofimo Lopez. He is a gritty, aggressive, and dirty fighter; the kind that Davis has yet to encounter.

‘Pitbull’ boasts of an impressive record of 24 fights with 22 wins, 1 draw, and one loss. He is currently on an impressive 11 fight win streak that stretches all the way back to November 2017. Cruz has one loss, against Luis Miguel Montano. This came early on in his career.

On December 5, expect fireworks, as Cruz will enter this fight with nothing to lose. He will put his heart and soul out in the ring and will not give ‘Tank’ an easy outing. Gervonta Davis, on the other hand, has everything to lose. He will look to quickly dispatch the young Mexican and move on to bigger fights.
