Tony Hawk is one of the most famous skateboarders in the world. Even though he is retired, Hawk is still one of the best pro skaters out there. Young skaters look up to him for inspiration.

Hawk has his own skateboarding company Birdhouse, named after his own nickname “Birdman.” Hawk was the first skater to complete the “900” trick and is famous for doing so.

Even though he is extremely popular, Hawk experiences multiple instances of mistaken identity in his daily life. People who bump into him fail to recognize him, thinking he looks like him but isn’t quite him. Hawk often tweets about these encounters, and he did so very recently.

This time, Hawk was at his daughter’s tournament when some young boys came up to him. They were staring at him, and came up to Hawk to tell him that he looked like the famous skater “Tony Hawk.” Hawk, being the funny man, humored them.

One boy even suggested that they take a picture with him, and then prank people into thinking they met the actual Tony Hawk.

Not only Hawk, but his daughter as well were quite amused by this encounter. What’s more interesting is that in the end, the boys didn’t even take a picture with the legendary skater, because they still couldn’t believe they’d actually met him.

What does Hawk think of these encounters?

Hawk revealed that it’s because people don’t really think they will bump into celebrities that easily. So when they actually do, it takes time for them to process it.

“I think sometimes people, I assume, get excited, and they’re trying to register it… so they’ll just sort of say things without really giving them critical thought,” said Hawk.

However, the pro skater doesn’t really complain about this. Being the humble man he is, he is simply thankful that there are people who actually recognize him. He believes these cases of mistaken identities are just humorous interactions and not to be taken to heart.
