Lewis Hamilton: His Road Through F1 How He Discovered His Love For Racing

With his sixth title in 2019, Lewis Hamilton has ensured his name is registered as a GOAT of the sport, right along with Michael Schumacher. What Schumacher was with Ferrari, he is with Mercedes F1. However his whole journey has been a long one with him discovering his love for racing at a very young age.

For Hamilton, it all began when he was six years old and his father bought him a radio controlled car. While most drivers nowadays start with karts, Hamilton is among the rare breed of being a service class child. Hence his start with a mere radio controlled car.

The video shows that he was up to speed from the very beginning and naturally was a god gifted talent. He was soon racing it on the BBC’s Blue Peter – the first of three appearances on the show – before he eventually started go-karting at Rye House Kart Circuit.

Such was his progress through the years, that McLaren signed him, including an option of a future F1 seat in the contract, and rewarded him with funding to progress through the ranks.

In 2000, partnering Rosberg, he became European karting champion and a year later, he finished seventh in an exhibition karting event, four places behind seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

Hamilton claimed the Formula Renault title in 2003, and the following season Williams could have signed him only for their engine supplier BMW to pass up the chance. According to Patrick Head, co-founder of Williams, BMW said they didn’t have the budget to fund Hamilton so the team couldn’t sign him.

Onwards with McLaren backing, Hamilton won the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2005 and then the GP2 Series title the next season. Progress like that could not be overlooked. McLaren signed him for 2007, alongside reigning double world champion Fernando Alonso.

From then on, Hamilton has never looked back and continued to impress everyone with his talent.

Now, 1992 to 2019 and beyond, Lewis Hamilton  has forged a strong path for himself. The only record he is shy of is Michael Schumacher’s 91 victories which he will achieve in 2020 or 2021 at max considering he has committed his stay in F1 till that year at least.
