Matteo Berrettini Gets Big Boost Ahead of Wimbledon Championships 2021, Wins Biggest Title of His Career at Queen’s

Rising Italian talent Matteo Berrettini was up against local boy Cameron Norrie in the finals of the Queen’s Club Championships 2021. It was their first-ever meeting and the stakes were high as they were involved in a final.
The Italian player won the match 6-4 6-7(5) 6-3, in a contest that lasted close to two hours.

As the final match began, both players were playing a safe game, avoiding unnecessary risks. However, in the sixth game, Matteo Berrettini stepped up and began putting pressure on his opponent’s service game and ended up getting the first break of the match.
In the end, the one break was enough for him to see off the set, winning 6-4 in 32 minutes. Matteo was serving brilliantly throughout the set and that was key in deciding the outcome. During the set, the Italian player won 90% of his first-serve points.

Set 2: Cameron Norrie puts up a fight against the Italian player
Cameron Norrie opened proceedings in the following set. For him to stand a chance, he required to hold his service games. We were midway through the set, but things were even at 3-3. In the ninth game, Norrie faced a scare as Berrettini had two opportunities to break the serve.
However, the British player held his serve and was one game away from taking the set at 5-4. Both players were serving brilliantly and in the end, the set had to be decided in a tiebreaker. During the tiebreak, the local hero came out on top and clinched the set 7-6(5).

Set 3: Matteo Berrettini prevails in the end

In the decider, both players were serving accurately. However, in the eighth game, Berrettini got the break and was sitting comfortably in the driver’s seat at 5-3. After that, he consolidated the break and thus ended up winning the set 6-3. During the set, the Italian player won 29 points whereas Norrie won 18 points.
After winning the title at the Queen’s Club Championships 2021, Berrettini will now shift his focus towards the other side of London, the Wimbledon Championships 2021. It will be interesting to see how the Italian player performs.
