New York Mets are recently grabbing headlines due to a record spending spree. Recently, Cohen also tried to acquire another marquee player with a $300 million worth contract. But since the plan got foiled, the Mets’ owner has explained why he initially made the plan. 

As per popular knowledge, Carlos Correa was among the marquee players sought after by the Mets. He fit in the grand plan of Cohen’s scheme as the Mets’ potential third baseman. Nonetheless, he has already signed up with the San Francisco Giants on a $350 million worth 13-year term contract. So following the failure of the big plan, Cohen has spoken up on his now unsuccessful fancy vision.

However, after signing up with the Giants, Correa can thus continue fielding in his original position as a shortstop. Famous MLB columnist Jon Heyman posted the news on his Twitter account, quoting, “Mets owner Steve Cohen in NY Post exclusive explains why he tried for Carlos Correa (for about $300M). “It would have given us a great ball team. I made a commitment to fans. If it means I have to spend money to fulfill that commitment, so be it.”

Meanwhile, speaking about Correa to the New York Post, a disappointed Cohen said, We thought maybe he might fall to us. He’s a great leader and a good guy. He could play third base. And he’s a great defender. We got there late.”
