Just when the Red Sox community is buzzing with excitement over top prospect Roman Anthony’s long-awaited call-up to the majors, the 21-year-old outfielder reminded us that character matters just as much as talent. On his way to Fenway, Anthony left his Triple-A teammates with a gesture that spoke volumes.
Wilyer Abreu’s injury has catapulted Anthony to the front, but his journey from Polar Park to Fenway Park is nothing short of cinematic. So while he will be slugging all around the MLB ball parks, he left his footprint with his Triple-A clubbies!

“Roman Anthony got all the WooSox clubbies new Nike dunks because he noticed one of them was wearing an old pair. He said, ‘I got you’ and had six pairs delivered to Polar Park for the crew,” Woosox insider Natalie Noury reported.

The Red Sox’s top prospect made sure not to leave Worcester without acknowledging the people behind the scenes. A pat on the back for the unsung heroes who keep the clubhouse running. Yes, gifting dunks for all might look like a small gesture, but one that speaks volumes about the kind of teammate and person he is.
Can we, too, take a moment of inspiration from Anthony and give a shoutout to the clubbies! While we are getting to see a polished talent on the biggest stage of baseball, it’s the crew at the Triple-A who make these things possible.
Worcester played a huge part in shaping up Roman Anthony’s career. In 2024, the outfielder became the youngest Red Sox prospect (20 years) in 46 years to appear in a Triple-A game. The slugger put together a season that felt like the arrival of a future star. He slashed 18 home runs, 65 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases over 119 games.

The numbers alone were worthy of headlines, but the accolades told the rest of the story. With the WooSox, Anthony had racked up a Minor League All-Star and a spot on the prestigious All-MiLB Prospect First Team.
So, the hype around Anthony as he suits up for the big leagues all began with a spark in Worcester. And the man remembered.
Anthony had an eventful MLB debut
Roman Anthony made his MLB debut against the Rays, and it kinda went mixed bag.
It all started with a standing ovation. When Roman Anthony’s name echoed through the ballpark during pregame introductions, a thunderous cheer erupted from the crowd of 31,422. Slotted in at right field and batting fifth in his Major League debut, the Red Sox’s top prospect stepped to the plate in the second inning with a runner on first and nobody out.
The cheers were short-lived as Anthony ended the day 0-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. His debut was also marked by a misplay. The fifth inning brought that hiccup. A rolling ball slipped under his glove, resulting in a two-base error. That miscue proved costly, setting up an unearned run for the Rays and stretching their lead to 3-0.

Roman Anthony’s mixed bag debut was a reminder that the big leagues test you fast and often.
“It’s tough when you lose a game like that, you feel like that’s the reason we lost — little things like that. Just got to learn from it and be better.” Yes, Anthony was quick to acknowledge his errors from the Red Sox’s 8-10 loss. And that’s an amazing sign, given it’s just the start. Also, let’s not forget that he made his MLB debut on very short notice.
And if you remember Derek Jeter’s debut against the Mariners in 1995, we can be certain that Anthony’s rough start might not be concerning. Jeter went 0-for-5 in his first game and committed an error in the field. The Yankees, too, lost that game. But then, you know the rest…
