Jeter is one of the greatest shortstops in MLB history and a true Yankee legend. He is known to be a humble, down-to-earth guy and if you didn’t know who he was in MLB, you wouldn’t guess it. Jeter’s wife Hannah Jeter didn’t know about his legendary status until a certain event took place.

When was it that Derek Jeter’s wife Hannah felt the magnitude of his career?

In a piece that she penned in the Players’ Tribune, Hannah Jeter mentioned that she met her husband during the offseason. This made it easier for them to get to know each other. And she said she got to know Derek the guy rather than Derek Jeter the Yankees icon. But she said that this also left her oblivious to how big her then-boyfriend was. It was only when she saw the Yankees play their 2013 season opener at the Yankee Stadium that she first realized it.

This is what she wrote recalling the moment “I walked into the stadium and saw fan-made signs: I LOVE DEREK JETER. DEREK, WILL YOU MARRY ME? It was a wild feeling, seeing all of that affection, live and up close. It felt almost as if New York and I were dating the same person.”

Hannah learned to get used to this feeling quite quickly. And in Jeter’s last season she made sure to be at as many games of his as possible. Derek Jeter retired in 2014, leaving behind a legendary legacy.

Jeter is currently spending a lot of time with his family right now. He seems to be enjoying his time as a father and occasionally posts pictures and videos with his daughters on social media.

Earlier this year, Jeter announced that he was stepping down as Miami Marlins CEO due to differences in vision. He also sold his ownership stake in the Marlins, cutting ties with the project.
