Playing in the big league is every baseball player’s dream. Some players make it to High School or college level before moving on. Others make it to the Minor Leagues and struggle for years before giving up. Most recently, a 13-year Minor League veteran made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates. This warmed fans’ hearts and had them celebrating his achievement.

Holding onto a dream is tough, with roadblocks and obstacles in your path. For Minor League players, it is even more difficult as they have no assurance of an MLB future. But the Pirates helped this Minor League veteran achieve his dream. 

Drew Maggi made his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates

Career Minor League infielder Drew Maggi replaced Pittsburgh Pirates star Bryan Reynolds, who went onto the bereavement list. Most recently, Maggi made his debut for the Pirates, a dream that was years in the making. The 33-year-old had spent 13 years in the Minor Leagues before finally getting his chance. The Pirates shared a video of Maggi speaking after his debut. He spoke a few words about the experience before sharing his advice.

In the video, Maggi said, “‘Anything is possible. Never give up, no matter what you’re doing. If you love something, go for it. This is special to me. I’ll never forget this whole experience.” These were some heartfelt words from the 33-year-old as he basked in the limelight of his big debut.

The Pirates have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season and currently own a 17-8 win-loss record. They signed star outfielder Bryan Reynolds to a long-term contract after fending off trade interest from the New York Yankees. Furthermore, they did it in a historic fashion.

The Pittsburgh Pirates recently agreed to an 8-year $106.75 million extension with outfielder Bryan Reynolds. This is the largest contract in franchise history, beating the $70 million contract that Ke’Bryan Hayes signed. Although some may be surprised that it was not more, Reynolds is currently 28 years old and still had arbitration years left. That limited the control he had over the deal. Nevertheless, he has signed the Pirates’ biggest deal.
