The fans of the New York Yankees are finally breathing a sigh of relief. Their beloved ace, Gerrit Cole, is making significant progress in his comeback from a right elbow injury. Earlier in March, he was sidelined due to a “discomfort” in his elbow. However, this weekend, Cole took a major step forward, throwing two simulated innings against minor-league hitters.

Following the simulated game, Cole himself expressed optimism about the process of his recovery. He stated with a tinge of pride, “We hit all our goals.” He continued, “We did exactly what we wanted to do today. Threw a lot of strikes, so pretty good.” These comments highlight Cole’s confidence in his progress, a positive sign for the Yankees.

There seems to be good news for the New York Yankees

This demo game marks the second time Cole has faced hitters since his injury. Early on, he threw 20 pitches in live batting practice. That said, it is important to note that the Yankees are taking a cautious but deliberate approach, gradually increasing Cole’s workload. This gradually cascading workload is helping him ease into the real MLB vigor he had before his injury.

While an exact return date remains unknown, Cole is expected to face hitters again in June. Also, he would be pitching against hitters in the coming days before potentially starting a minor league rehab assignment. The Yankees are all set to utilize most of the allotted 30-day rehab period to ensure Cole’s full recovery.

That said, they are also targeting a return by the end of June or early July. While the fans are eager to see their ace dominate the mound, the ‘best pitcher in the world’ is preparing to get back as soon as possible.

The return of a Cy Young ace will be a boost for the Yankees

Gerrit Cole’s return will be a major shot in the arm for the already-potent Yankees. His presence in the Bronx bolsters a pitching staff that has been performing admirably in his absence. With Cole back in the mix, the Yankees’ World Series aspirations become even more formidable. On one hand, one can’t help but notice how dominant the Yankees have been despite the absence of their ace. On the other hand, it is exciting to imagine the Yankees’ dominance after their ace returns.

The wait for Cole’s return is nearing its end. His successful simulated game and positive outlook offer Yankee fans a reason to celebrate. The return of their Cy Young ace is on the horizon, and with it, the Yankees’ hopes for a championship run.
