Finally, the New York Yankees fans can heave a sigh of relief. Their beloved ace, Gerrit Cole, spoke up about his rehab after he was sidelined due to a “discomfort” in his elbow. On Tuesday night, he made a surprise appearance on the YES Network broadcast. What he said, certainly gave fans some relief.
Seems like it’s good news. Cole, was diagnosed with nerve inflammation and edema in his right elbow earlier this month and had to be absent on opening day. In fact, he even consulted with Dr. Neal ElAttrache who advised him not to throw for the next three to four weeks. But all’s well that ends well. The Cy Young Award winner assured that “Everything is coming along smoothly”.
A Different Kind of Heat: Cole Breaks Down Rehab Process

For someone who has barely made it to the IL, this marked Cole’s first stint on the injured list. The reigning AL Cy Young winner did not shy away from sharing details of his unique rehab program. For a start, he said, “You build it from all the different vulnerable positions.” With that, he further went on to explain to David Cone, the broadcaster.

Turns out that rebuilding arm strength is far beyond just throwing baseballs. Cole detailed that his program targets specific arm positions. The purpose of that is to progressively build strength which then leads to incorporating dynamic movements.

Though there has not been a fixed date of when Cole will be back to the mound, manager Aaron Boone echoed Cole’s optimism. The skipper said, “He’s moving in that direction. Everything seems to be going well so far.” This revelation is a welcome relief for the Yankees faithful who are eager to see their ace back.
