Freddie Freeman has done it again. In only his second season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the first baseman is already breaking records and is doing so in style. The 33-year-old has been hitting .315 and a .923 OPS and just hit his 9th home run of the season, a move that will go into history books. The Dodgers currently stand at the top of the NL West, although trouble seems to be following them.

Losing players to injuries has been a tough blow, as witnessed by the recent game against the St Louis Cardinals. Fans think it was an embarrassing 16-8 loss but Freeman making history with his 300th career homer dulls the pain a bit.

The first baseman joined a very exclusive club of players last night as he hit a grand slam. Freeman is only the second player in history to hit his 300th home run as a grand slam; the last and only one to do so was Rubén Sierra in 2004. Facing off against the Cardinals’ Genesis Cabrera in the sixth inning, Freeman hit a long ball right into center field. It will certainly be a series opener to remember; the scoreboard showed a bit of a difference between the scores but a player also achieved a rather historic feat.

The LA Dodgers’ official Twitter shared a picture of the players standing around a table with champagne bottles, and flutes raised in the air in a gesture of congratulations. “A toast to 300. Congratulations, Freddie!” the caption read.
