A few years ago, going down memory lane, Rose shared an interesting incident that happened with DiMaggio in Vietnam. The Reds legend revealed he will never forget when he had to shower DiMaggio in the middle of a jungle while the war was still going on.

“I spent 22 days with Joe and we were down where the war was going on… We were out in the middle of a jungle and it’s damn hot. You can’t sleep… You can see that every fourth bullet out of the helicopters is a tracer. We were watching there is a war going on. And Joe wants to take a shower,” Rose said.

Notably, Rose was not in the favor of shower because of the ongoing war. But DiMaggio was DiMaggio. He said he will shower no matter what. And since Rose had no option left, he had to help pour water over the Yankees legend in the middle of a jungle.

“I said Joe, we are not downtown Saigon. He goes, ‘I don’t give a damn, I am Joe DiMaggio. We got to take a shower…’ And the only way you could take a shower, there is this big bamboo thing… Someone is gonna get on the chair and feed the water and pull the string and the water comes through,” Rose added.

While telling about this incident, Rose also related it to DiMaggio’s infamous relationship with Hollywood sensation, Marilyn Monroe. “I was the guy who did that for Joe DiMaggio. So, I saw everything Marilyn [Monroe] saw,” Pete Rose concluded.
