However, the birth of this discipline aged back to his childhood when his parents made him sign an arbitrary contract that negotiated his baseball career with his household manners, etiquette, and discipline. Hence, until he turned 18, Jeter signed a contract every year with 18 clauses that included respect for girls, and a safe distance from alcohol, drugs, arguing, and bad behavior in general.

Derek Jeter makes a shocking revelation about a fear that grew with time

In an interview with ESPN in 2017, Jeter was asked a question about the contract, and whether he ever violated it. To this, the Yankees legend responded in a way that revealed another side of his character. He discussed the fear of disappointing his parents, even at 42. And this fear stopped him from breaking any of the rules on the contract.

While speaking about this, Jeter said, “I was so, you know, I was so afraid of disappointing my parents, and to this day, it’s something that’s in the back of my mind.”
