‘I Would Never Do It To a Friend’- Derek Jeter Finally Confirms Beef With ‘Not True Friend’ Alex Rodriguez; Reveals Comments From 2001 ‘Bothered Him’

Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez will remain two of the best player to play in the same era of Major League Baseball. Apart from their partnership in the ballparks, Jeter and Rodriguez shared a good relationship between them. However, things went south when the former Yankees’ shortstop made some offensive comments about Derek Jeter.

Notably, Jeter and Rodriguez were two of the best players of their generation. Even though Rodriguez did not play with Jeter during the early years of his professional career, they were best buddies in baseball.

But that one comment made by Rodriguez in 2001 will always haunt Jeter. And recently, the former New York Yankees captain opened up about how Rodriguez’s remark affected their friendship.

Dating back to 2001, when Alex Rodriguez was a big thing in MLB, he made some serious remarks about his then-close friend, Derek Jeter.

Rodriguez had questioned the playing capacity of Jeter. The former Yankees’ shortstop had said that beating Jeter was never a concern. “He’s never had to lead,” Rodriguez said. “He doesn’t have to, he can just go and play and have fun, and hit second… You never say, ‘Don’t let Derek beat you.’ That’s never your concern.”

Reacting to Rodriguez’s comments, Jeter, in his documentary, clarified his stand and said that he would not have said something like that to a true friend. And it bothered him.

“I’m very, very loyal. As a friend, I’m loyal. I just looked at it as ‘I wouldn’t have done it. He’s not a true friend, is how I felt,” Jeter said in “The Captain.” Jeter concluded by saying, “Because I wouldn’t do it to a friend.”

 Notably, it is something that Rodriguez will regret about doing it. Meanwhile, being a responsible and generous guy, A-Rod also appeared in Jeter’s documentary and accepted his fault.

“To allow that opening, that gap, that space to come between Derek and I, that’s on me,” Alex Rodriguez said.
