There is a saying in sports that ‘form is temporary and class is permanent.’ And the St. Louis Cardinals hitter, Albert Pujols, is the perfect example of it. He is the epitome of grace and class in baseball. Even at 42, the Cardinals legend is launching moonshots game after game.

Earlier on Saturday, while playing against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Pujols hammered two home runs and helped the Cardinals thrash the Diamondbacks. When the 2022 regular season started, Pujols was 21 home runs sort of entering the iconic 700 home runs club. And now, the Cardinals legend needs just eight home runs to complete his 700 homers in MLB.

However, Pujols is not worried about the home run record, as he had already announced that he will retire by the end of the season. Pujols said that he wanted to end his career where it all started, and he does not really care about the home run record.

Albert Pujols is all class. The Cardinals legend does not care about personal records. Currently, when he is at 692 home runs, Pujols does not want to play for some personal record. And that is the reason every baseball fans love him.

While talking about whether he looks forward to breaking into the 700 home run club, Pujols said he does not care about the numbers.

“I’m still going to retire, no matter whether I end up hitting 693, 696, 700, whatever,’’ Pujols told USA TODAY Sports. “I don’t get caught up in numbers. If you were going to tell me 22 years ago that I would be this close, I would have told you that you’re freakin’ crazy. My career has been amazing.’’

Pujols is just grateful that the Cardinals allowed to play him his last season where he wanted it to be.

“I took obviously a lot less money and less promises,’’ Pujols said. “But this is where I want to be. This is where I wanted to finish my last year, and thank God he allowed me to have this door open to come here to finish my career,” he concluded.

Will Pujols break Alex Rodriguez’s record?

As earlier mentioned, currently, Pujols stands at 692 home runs, while A-Rod has 696 homers in MLB. Considering the Cardinals still have to play at least 40-45 games this season, Albert Pujols has chances of not only breaking A-Rod’s record but also entering the 700 home run club.
