New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge has silenced some doubters with a recent hot streak, but his laser focus remains firmly on team victories. While his bat has come alive in recent weeks particularly in their last game with the Chicago White Sox, Judge continues to prioritize winning above all else. With that he is showcasing a refreshing and unique display of leadership.

Early in the season, Judge endured a slump that fell well below his usual MVP-caliber production. Apart from fans questioning his slump, his batting average dipped, and home runs became a rare spectacle. This dry spell fueled speculation from not only analysts but also his own manager Aaron Boone. While some questioned his health others questioned his swing mechanics. Despite it all, Judge remained unfazed, publicly downplaying his struggles and emphasizing the importance of contributing to team wins even when his power wasn’t on display.

Aaron Judge Looks Back On Struggles Amid Victories

But now, when things seem to be turning around for Judge, he seems to be looking back at his struggles. In a Friday’s post-game interview he said, “You can’t [dwell on struggles]. All I’m doing by that is taking away from the team. It’s about going out there and winning games.”  This mentality is a welcome change for Yankees fans who witnessed the team struggle offensively in Judge’s absence.

The 31-year-old captain’s focus on winning extends far beyond the batter’s box. He understands that even the most dominant hitters go through cold streaks. A true leader, according to Judge, finds ways to contribute regardless of his hitting performance. He further added, “If you’re not hitting, things aren’t going your way, you’ve gotta find other ways to help the ball club. “

Explaining more, he said, “If it’s on defense, working a walk when you’re not feeling that great… You can’t sit there and dwell on the bad and you can’t sit there and rejoice in all the good things. You have to keep moving on and take it day to day.” It has become increasingly clear that Judge’s recent surge has been a catalyst for the Yankees.

Things Are Looking Up For the Yankees After Judge’s Resurgence

Over the past month, he has launched several home runs, including a game-winning blast against the division rival Boston Red Sox. Furthermore, he’s also driven in key runs, propelling the Yankees into the thick of the American League East playoff race.

While his recent tear is certainly exciting for fans, Judge’s comments highlight a maturity that transcends hitting statistics.  He understands the importance of staying mentally strong and contributing in any way possible.  This leadership is exactly what the Yankees need as they chase a World Series title. The ‘Judge Jury’ may have been in session debating his early-season struggles, but the verdict is now clear.  Aaron Judge is back, and he’s leading by example, one win at a time.
