The New York Yankees have a tumultuous relationship with their roster and lineup this season. They have brought on many young faces to the team, from 21-year-old shortstop Anthony Volpe to right-hander Jhony Brito, the team is going through a transformational phase right now.

The 25-year-old was unexpectedly thrust into action due to injuries in the team’s rotation, making them lose 3-5th of their starting pitchers. Despite being a relative newcomer to the big leagues, Brito showed his mettle in his MLB debut. He helped lead the team to a 6-0 victory over the Giants on April 2nd, pitching five scoreless innings and earning his first Major League win.

However, just as everyone was beginning to get excited about the young phenom’s potential, the Yanks announced that they were optioning him down to Triple-A. Nevertheless, another piece of news has been making rounds that the Yankees have not recalled the pitcher back up after just 5 days.

The New York Yankees have recalled the right-hander back to their MLB bullpen

When the Yankees made the surprising announcement that they were optioning Jhony Brito down to Triple-A, fans were left wondering what had caused this unexpected move. But it turns out that the decision had little to do with the young phenom’s performance on the field.

The Aaron Boone-led team was simply looking to make some strategic adjustments to their roster. With a four-man roster in place for the upcoming series, they saw an opportunity to add some valuable bullpen support by optioning Brito. They instead brought up Ian Hamilton, who they would’ve lost if they didn’t empty a roster space for a few days.
