Another inevitable but unexpected death has hit the world of MLB. The baseball space witnesses the profound silence of a life’s final chapter a week after Tim Wakefield’s devastating death. As this “first-class husband, father and teammate” departs, the world is deeply saddened. 

Known for his glorified career from 1990 to 2000, this evergreen MLB star left an enriching legacy behind. This legend has a glimpse of the most significant moment of his career back in 1995. Nevertheless, now what remains are fond memories as a “consummate teammate & venerable clubhouse presence”. 

Deeply Saddened By The Unexpected Departure

The baseball community mourns the loss of Jim Poole, a revered figure who graced the majors left-handed for 11 seasons. Poole, a dedicated pitcher who played for the Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Baltimore Orioles among other great teams over his 11 year tenure, died at the age of 57 from ALS. A symbol of unmatched sportsmanship and commitment lost his life to this neurological illness, widely referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Yesterday, Georgia Tech, his alma mater, announced publicly that on Friday Poole had breathed his last in the Atlanta region, surrounded by family. Condolences poured in from the Cleavland Guardians, “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Cleveland Indians 1995 World Series pitcher Jim Poole. Our thoughts are with the Poole family”.

In a formal statement, Georgia Tech’s baseball coach, Danny Hall, expressed the following. “It broke my heart this morning to learn of Jim Poole’s passing. He was a first-class husband, father and teammate.”

Hall further said that he (Poole) had a deep affection for Georgia Tech and displayed unwavering dedication to supporting the university’s coaches and players throughout his many years. He truly embodied the essence of a tech man.

Jim Poole’s legacy extends far beyond his contributions to baseball. Owing to his ALS diagnosis in 2021, he took to advocating, tirelessly raising awareness for the disease. Also, he rallied the baseball community for an ALS Awareness Day in 2022, collecting the support of fans and players.

The gravity of the disease is such that the world lost another sports person, Chris Snow, on September 30. Following the Calgary Flames assistant general manager’s death, Poole’s folks are penetrated by his loss. Fans took to Twitter and shared their condolences.

Remembered as a powerful warrior in the fight against ALS, fans shared their feelings. While some comments spoke highly of Poole, some highlighted the gravity of the disease itself. Either way, one thing is clear. Fans greatly miss him.

Jim Poole, who was well known for his intellectual prowess and work ethic both on and off the field, is survived by his wife Kim, three children, and two grandkids.
