The LA Angels may have started the season with fresh hope, but their recent performances have left much from them wanting. While they were topping the AL West at a time with the best record in the division, they have since slipped up. Their loss against the Philadelphia Phillies brings their streak to 11 games, a statistic they will want to arrest before extending. And the game was not a blowout for the Phillies either. In fact, for a majority of the game, the Angels could have capped their losses at 10 in a row. However, fate had other plans.

The LA Angels are operating a superstar roster. With their offensive lineup boasting the likes of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, there is no shortage of power hitters from home plate. And while their mound rotation may not be the strongest in the league, they boast the talents of Noah Syndergaard and Ohtani, both capable pitchers in their right. However, this bad run of form affects the entire franchise and is pulling them below a .500 record.

LA Angels stumble again

The LA Angels were sitting pretty atop the AL West till the middle of May. However, with a terrible run of form since, they have found their way 8.5 games behind division leaders in the Houston Astros. And with their most recent loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, they snapped a record that they would’ve been looking to avoid.

With their 11th consecutive loss in MLB, the Angels joined some dubious company. The last time the Angels dropped these many, Mike Trout was 24, and Shohei Ohtani was two years out from making his debut in MLB. Having last created such a streak in August 2016, the Angels will look to arrest their slide as soon as possible.

The loss also cemented their record at 26-27, after being 11 games ahead of the .500 mark only 15 days prior. Manager Joe Maddon seemed perplexed at the losses and needed to plan to exit the spiral. Said Maddon, “We’ve lost a lot of tough ones and it really makes no sense.”

Joe Maddon Reacts to the losses

The Angels were on the receiving end of a tough game. They led as late as the top of the 9th, but rookie Bryson Stott gave away a walk-off- a three-run homer to lose the game 9-7. Although significant details remain yet to be learned, Maddon was positive going ahead. “I loved the fight but we have to finish these games off, and that’s a big part of the situation we’re in right now,” he added.

But what do you think? Do the Angels have what it takes to make it to the post-season? Or is this slip-up the final nail in the coffin for the franchise for 2022?
