The San Diego Padres are a franchise that has been chasing glory for a long time, only to miss the postseason every time. But ever since Peter Seidler got involved with the Padres, they have been a different story, looking dangerous. But even he could not achieve his dream and left us behind. And now, with the team’s future hanging in the balance, things are on edge.

Peter Seidler’s wife, Sheel Seidler, recently called out USA Today and Bob Nightengale on X for their incorrect reporting. “@usatoday Peter did not die from cancer. He was in remission. His death was caused by an unforeseen infection. Please correct your reporting.” This comes after all the things the Seidler family had to go through after news of them looking to sell the team broke.

“I want to share with you that the family has decided to begin a process of evaluating our future with the Padres, including a potential sale of the franchise… We will undertake this process with integrity and professionalism in a way that honors Peter’s legacy and love for the Padres and lays the foundation for the franchise’s long-term success,” the Padres’ chairman and control person, John Seidler, announced on Thursday.

Sheel Seidler said Peter Seidler died from an unforeseen infection and not from cancer. She confirmed he passed on November 2023 at the age of 63. Mrs. Seidler later stated the infection caused unexpected complications during his final medical struggle.

Peter survived two battles with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma before facing his last illness. He underwent a significant procedure in August 2023, ending his season early. But his contributions to the team were undeniable.

He invested heavily in the Padres and pushed payroll toward nearly $250 million.

His spending secured stars like Manny Machado and Xander Bogaerts alongside Fernando Tatis Jr. His tenure delivered success in 2020 and an NLCS berth in 2022.

Sheel said selling the team hurts deeply because winning in San Diego was Peter’s dream.

Peter Seidler changed the Padres so completely that even his absence continues to reshape their future. Sheel Seidler’s correction reminds everyone that facts matter, especially when legacies sit on fragile ground. If MLB ever wanted proof of impact, Peter made the Padres louder than their payroll receipts.
