When the regular season is in full flow, a game of baseball is not just about baseball. It is beyond the victories and defeats in the ballparks. There are some events that just amaze the baseball world. Most recently, something very unique happened with a 22-year-old prospect shortstop of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Young Liover Peguero, based out of the Dominican Republic, recently opened up about embracing the English language, which was foreign to him. The shortstop’s way of embracing the language is not only unique but also amusing in an iconic way. It is not the usual process of how someone learns a language, but something a person would rather enjoy learning.

“When there is a will, there is a way”

Currently ranked as the Pirates’ 6th prospect, Peguero as a kid, did have access to the internet and English as well. It was not his mother tongue, and neither did he purposely want to learn something new. Instead, one day, when the Pirates SS could not understand a song in English, it made Liover curious enough to learn the language.

In an interview with MLB, he said, “I’ve never been [to] an English class before. It’s all about music. I’ve been doing it for years.” Furthermore, the minor league player added, “I fell in love with the language. I remember asking my uncle, ‘What’s that language? I don’t know that language. What’s the song called? Who sings it?’ That’s how I got into it, and I went from there.”

Peguero unconventionally learned English

Conventional or not, if the way of learning something isn’t illegal or does not harm anyone in any way, it becomes the right thing to do. And the Pirates shortstop did exactly the same by listening to raps by 50 Cent and other American hip-hop singers.
