The former New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez is onto something. One of the lesser-known things about the man with a colorful life is the fact that he was a restaurant magnate. Surprised much? Well, he’s not new to experiencing changes in his life. Talk about seeing his daughter flying the nest, reuniting with his former teammate Derek Jeter, and even turning around his health priorities. A-Rod is on a mission.

He has stepped up to the plate for his health. Recently, the 48-year-old shared a significant dietary overhaul, in which he highlighted plant-based meals. He also stated that he drastically reduced his meat intake. Let’s just say that as the partner of Jaclyn Cordeiro who is a fitness buff Rodriguez’s endeavors are not just about feeling better. It’s got a higher purpose.

A-Rod Is On A Mission to Keep Cancer Away

Cancer. That’s the word the former Yankees shortstop wants to erase the traces of. Well, this might come as a surprise considering Rodriguez’s restaurant empire. A bit more about that tidbit – In his early days Rodriguez owned a bar and grill in Greenwich Village. He has 20 restaurants added to his portfolio. As someone who has been deeply involved in the world of food service, A-Rod’s personal philosophy on eating has made a healthier move.

“The biggest thing I’ve done for my diet is I used to eat meat like steak probably eight out of 10 days,” the former Yankees legend shared with People magazine. He added, “Now I’ve cut it to one or two days out of 10.”  This sizeable reduction in the consumption of meat is in sync with the research suggesting a lower risk of cancer those who takes in less meat.

A 2022 research done by Dan Buettner, a journalist and longevity researcher supports the notion by which Rodriguez is currently functioning. The finding is that vegetarians and vegans had a 14% lower overall cancer risk in comparison to those who ate meat over five times a week. His research pointed to “blue zones” comprising people who hardly ate red meat and processed food. As a result they experience exceptional longevity.
