Apart from the LA Dodgers, the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies are two such teams from the National League who can defeat any MLB side on any given day. Be it their roster strength or current form, the Phillies and Mets have been equally good this season, especially after the All-Star break.

It is not that the Mets and Phillies share a rivalry like the Yankees and Red Sox, and the Dodgers and Padres do. Despite that, a veteran Mets broadcaster revealed he does not enjoy commentating on the Phillies games.

Currently, the two NL sides are on a winning spree. The Mets have won five games in a row, while the Phillies have also won six straight games. And this weekend, the NL East sides will play a three-game series in Citi Field. But the ace Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez will not be available for the Mets-Phillies series, as he hates to watch the Phillies play.

Currently, the New York Mets are playing a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds. During the second game in Citi Field, Keith Hernandez of SNY Sports was in the commentary booth for the Mets.

While talking with Gary Cohen (another broadcaster), Hernandez expressed he hates doing the Phillies games.

“It’s a scheduled off series,” Hernandez explained. “I’ve expressed to the front office — not the Mets front office, our front office at SNY — that I hate doing Phillies games. So I guess they gave me the series off.”

And when Cohen asked Hernandez if he hates the Phillies, the Mets broadcaster said, “They never seem to disappoint. Over the years — and they’re hot right now, so, I’d like to see them — but as far as fundamentally, defensively, the Phillies have always been just not up to it.”

When talking about the Mets, they have become even stronger after Jacob deGrom’s return from his injury. With Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom, the Mets have two of the best pitchers playing for their side.
