‘A Real Cool Experience’- When Olympic Swimming Champion Michael Phelps Hit Batting Cage for Baltimore Orioles

Being successful is no big deal. But being humble with success makes the person a better human being. Olympic legend, Michael Phelps, is the perfect example of this. The American swimmer holds the record for winning the most gold medals in the Olympics.

Hailing from Baltimore, it is no surprise which team he supports in Major League Baseball. Yes! Many people might not know that, but Phelps is a massive fan of the Baltimore Orioles. Even though Phelps has never played professional baseball, he knows a thing or two about how to hit the ball.

Looking back into the 2013 MLB season, Michael Phelps, AKA The Baltimore Bullet, hit the batting cage for his favorite baseball team. The Orioles might not be a big name in MLB, but in the name of Michael Phelps, they have got the back of America’s most successful athlete.

Olympic legend Michael Phelps turned up for the Baltimore Orioles

Having won 28 medals in the Olympics, Michael Phelps is inarguably the greatest swimmer in the world. Out of his 28 Olympic medals, 23 are gold medals, which is a world record by an individual. Back in the 2013 season, when Phelps was active in swimming competitions, he hit the batting cage of the Orioles and took five rounds of batting practice.

Per CBS Sports, Phelps was happy to take part in his first batting practice. He wore the number 18 on his back to honor the number of gold medals he won at the Olympics. Notably, in 2013, Phelps had only 18 gold medals to his name.

“It was my first time taking BP, so it was a real cool experience, being able to do that with these guys, and especially after a remarkable season, and hopefully they have a good one coming up,” said Phelps.

“Everyone was sitting here saying what I should be doing, so I just tried to listen to all of them a little bit. I wanted to hit one out, but we caught a couple that were close.”

The current state of the Orioles

Despite being one of the oldest teams in MLB, the Orioles have failed to establish themselves as a top team. With just 33 wins out of 72 games, the Orioles are at the bottom in the American League East. And given their current situation, it will not get better.

Because, apart from their poor performances, the Orioles have a big problem going on in their ownership. The Angelos brothers are legally fighting for taking the control of the MLB franchise.
