Former Red Sox star player, Jason Varitek, recently surprised a fan eating at a canteen. The man was sporting Varitek’s jersey. However, he couldn’t recognize him at first. 

Jason Varitek is a retired baseball legend who played for the Boston Red Sox in his entire MLB career. Varitek is considered one of the greatest catchers ever. He is a three-time All-Star player and two-time World Series champion. He is famous for his switch-hitting skills. 

One isn’t always lucky enough to bump into their favorite athletes. That too when wearing the jersey with the name and number of a particular player. But a fortunate fan recently got talked up by the legendary, Jason Varitek. Catherine, the wife of Jason, recorded the conversation and posted the video clip on Twitter.

Jason Varitek was on a visit to Canobie Lake Park with his family. His kids pointed out to a man eating at a canteen, wearing a Jason Varitek jersey. So Jason decided to walk up to his fan as a random stranger taking a stroll around.

Jason straightaway began a casual conversation with his fan. As they talked, Jason’s wife Catherine captured the whole video on her camera. The unsuspecting fan had no idea who he was talking to. Jason eventually introduced himself and the surprised fan smiled, going on to hug his hero. 

Walking up to the fan, Jason asked the fan about the quality of the pizza. As the fan talked about the food, Catherine pointed to his ‘Jason Varitek jersey’. She said that Jason doesn’t play anymore. To which, the fan nodded pointing out to a place where Jason can often is usually seen.

At that point, Jason introduced himself. The fan was shell-shocked and overjoyed. With a big smile, the fan replied saying, “Dude! Oh my God! Jason Varitek, you got me! What are the odds? Oh My God!” 

Jason Varitek: Life after the retirement 

Retired in 2011, Varitek being a passionate baseball lover, has stayed involved with the sport. He has since managed many off-field duties, particularly with the Red Sox. At present, he is the game planning coordinator of the Red Sox coaching staff. Previously, he has also worked as the special assistant manager and catching coach, respectively, for the franchise.
