After losing four straight games, and their fourth consecutive series loss being on the line, the New York Yankees and their fans finally had something to smile about, as they managed to beat the Guardians’ 4-2 victory in the Bronx. But as the recent past has dictated, the Yanks dugout isn’t able to go a single day without a new injury update, and this time, it’s pitcher Lou Trivino.

Lou Trivino, who was already placed on the 60-day injured list, will undergo Tommy John surgery, compounding the Yankees’ injury woes.

Now, the Pinstripes IL house Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Josh Donaldson, along with pitchers Carlos Rodon, Frankie Montas, Tommy Kahnle, and Luis Severino, among many others.

It just keeps getting worse for the Yanks…

On Tuesday, the Yankees announced that their struggling bullpen suffered another setback as Lou Trivino, a reliever, is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery on Wednesday. Trivino has been dealing with a right elbow strain since spring training. His surgery will further compound the problems faced by the Yankees’ pitching squad, which has already been severely depleted.

Aaron Boone discussed Trivino’s injury and conveyed his dissatisfaction, while also mentioning the pitcher’s own disappointment. He said, “More than anything right now, kind of just feeling for [Trivino] and knowing how hard he works. He really wanted to be a part of this. I know it’s disappointing, but the big thing right now is to support him through this.”

While Yankee fans were distraught, this time, fans from all around the MLB community reached out sympathizing with their bullpen that doesn’t stop getting hurt.

This is how fans reacted:

Notably, the Bronx Bombers acquired Trivino and Frankie Montas from the Oakland Athletics in August 2022, in exchange for JP Sears, Ken Waldichuk, Luis Medina, and Cooper Bowman.

Even Frankie Montas, acquired in the same deal from the A’s, is on the injury list and was also the first Yankee casualty in 2023.
