The ups and downs are part of every athlete’s career. There are phases when they can’t perform best to their capabilities and feel that they have an unfinished job. In those moments, they need support to overcome that rough patch. MLB legend Alex Rodriguez also experienced the same during his career.

Recently, Rodriguez opened up about a time when he was not performing well and was under a lot of pressure because of big names around him. He then shared an interesting story about how a few words from then-GM George Steinbrenner changed the entire course of his season.

When words of appreciation helped Alex Rodriguez break the slump!

Recently Alex Rodriguez was a guest on The Craig Kilborn podcast. On the show, Alex opened up about his time at the Yankees and a special note he once got from GM. He shared that he was having a slow start to the season and was looking for some motivational support, which eventually came as a note from the Yankees GM.

Alex shared, “I was off to a slow start, and I get to the locker room at old Yankee Stadium around 2:00, o’clock for a 7:00, o’clock game. And there’s a little note in my locker, and it says GMs. And those are George Steinbrenner’s initials.”

Alex pointed out that his hands were shaking while reading the note that said, “Alex, I couldn’t be more proud of you. I am so happy I made the trade for you. You remind me of the great Reggie Jackson and just do your thing, have fun, smile, you know, love GMs.”

The 2009 World Series winner then added that he got motivated by those words. He hit two home runs after reading the note and continued to perform similarly for the next 35 days. It became one of the best seasons in his career.

Though it was not the only season where Rodriguez performed well, he eventually ended his career as an MLB legend in 2016.

A two-decade-old legendary career!

Alex Rodriguez has made it to the history books. He played for over two decades, finishing as the Yankees’ great. During his career, he played over 2700 games and scored 2086 runs at an average of 0.285.

Rodriguez is considered one of the big hitters in the game. He has 696 home runs and more than 3000 hits to his credit. Though, the story could have been different had George Steinbrenner not motivated Rodriguez.
