Over the past few days, the UFC has announced several interesting fights as the promotion slowly outlines its road map for the first quarter of 2022. One of the aforementioned fight announcements was that of the trilogy between featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and perennial number one contender Max Holloway.
However, recent reports suggest that Holloway has pulled out of the fight after aggravating a previous injury. At this point in time, this has not been confirmed by the promotion.

It is unclear how long Holloway will be out for; it is also uncertain if the UFC will wait for the former champion to heal up or book Volkanovski a replacement fight. Should the promotion opt to book ‘The Great’ a replacement fight, there is no shortage of opponents who have stepped forward in the past few hours.
Henry Cejudo is the man to replace Max Holloway against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 272
Over the past few hours, the likes of Bryce Mitchell, Giga Chikadze, Josh Emmett have stepped up and offered to take on Volkanovski at UFC 272. If Holloway will not need a long time to recover, the UFC might reschedule the fight for later this year. However, if ‘Blessed’ will take a considerable time to recover from the injury, the UFC will definitely look for a replacement.
Henry Cejudo retired from the sport almost two years back. However, he has always maintained that he would return if the opportunity to win a third belt arose. This is the perfect time for the UFC to match up Cejudo against Volkanovski.

There is no clear contender in the top-10 of the featherweight rankings at the moment. Giga Chikadze could step in and take the fight, but it will depend on him getting a win over Calvin Kattar on January 15.

A fight against Cejudo would mean big business for everyone involved. However, the only thing that would stop the UFC from getting this fight done is the fear that Cejudo would once again retire after winning the belt. It is worth noting that ‘Triple C’ has stated that he would defend the featherweight title should he win it.
