‘I Don’t Think it Was a Mistake’-Georges St-Pierre on Jan Blachowicz vs Israel Adesanya

Former multi-divisional UFC champion Georges St-Pierre was interviewed by his fellow countryman Ariel Helwani. In the interview, ‘GSP’ stated that he was leaning towards Adesanya in the first and second rounds, where the third round was very close. Jan Błachowicz won the championship rounds 4 and 5.
He said that it was a very close fight and said “You make that fight 10 times I don’t think Blachowicz will win all ten fights”.
Georges St-Pierre also said, “I don’t think it was a mistake. It was a learning experience for Israel Adesanya. I think this fight will make him a much better fighter”.

‘The Last Stylebender’ moved up a weight class from 185lbs to 205lbs and tried to add his name to the short and rare list of UFC double champions. Adesanya didn’t need this, but he wanted this fight. Further, Adesanya was undefeated coming to the fight.
The fight went the distance and ‘Polish Power’ reigned supreme and successfully defended his belt for the first time. Adesanya lost his undefeated record but gained a lot of respect from the fans and the fellow fighters.
Jan Blachowicz impressed Georges St-Pierre with his performance at UFC 259
Georges St-Pierre was shocked when he realized how good Blachowicz was in that fight. ‘GSP’ assumed that Adesanya would be too fast for ‘Polish Power’ but Blachowicz did very well.
George said, “I thought to win Blachowicz needed to make it more like a dirty fight, in the beginning. He was able to stand with Adesanya, and I always thought that Adesanya would be too fast for him”.

The Light Heavyweight champion showed all his skills. The Polish champion landed clean punches on Adesanya and successfully took him down multiple times.

Size advantage played a big role as the challenger was taken down easily. It is clear that these weight divisions are made for a reason. The size was a major factor. Adesanya looked unbeaten in the Middleweight division, but lost convincingly at 205lbs.

Following this ‘GSP’ highlighted the fact that fighting a bigger opponent is not as economical as fighting a guy of a similar size.
This was the best takeaway from the fight and hopefully ‘The Last Stylebender’ will come up with a similar opportunity in his near future. Israel Adesanya is still a young Lion. He is already a great champion, therefore, Adesanya lost nothing in his fight against Jan Blachowicz.
