Former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt has not been having the best results off late in the UFC. ‘No Love’ has had a tough couple of years ever since he lost his belt to TJ Dillashaw for the first time at UFC 217 in November 2017. Since then he has won just one of four fights in the UFC.

A mixture of serious health issues as well as fight style has meant that Cody Garbrandt has not been the same fighter who absolutely dominated Dominick Cruz on the way to a unanimous decision win at UFC 207.

In a recent interview with TMZ sports, ‘No Love’ shared what he wants next in his UFC career and called out flyweight champion Brandon Moreno for a fight. He said, “It just makes sense. If Brandon wants to fight, I think he’s a great champion, a great human being. He’s leveled up a lot in his last few fights. I like him as a person, super happy for the kid. The trajectory and career that he’s had, being cut from the UFC, being the last pick on The Ultimate Fighter to becoming a world champion”.

‘No Love’ continued, “A small percentage is able to be a world champion inside the UFC. He’s done it, did it in miraculous fashion with how he beat ‘Figgy’, so yeah I think he’s a great fighter. I think it’s a great stylistic matchup for myself and I finally get to fight at my natural weight where I think I’ll perform the best”

Will we get to see Cody Garbrandt vs Brandon Moreno?

The interest from Garbrandt’s side in fighting for the flyweight title has been reciprocated by the champion Brandon Moreno who also said he would like to fight Garbrandt. ‘No Love’ was set to face Deiveson Figueiredo towards the tail end of 2020. However, he had to withdraw after testing positive for COVID-19.

A move down to flyweight is still something he is interested in. The champion is also interested in a fight with him. It will be interesting to see if the UFC gets that fight done given Garbrandt has won just one of his last five fights. And lost in his last outing.
