Ahead of the trilogy between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier, there was a lot of back and forth between the two men. McGregor, still irked by Dustin Poirier for calling him out for not making a donation towards his foundation, reverted to trash talking and using mind games to get under Poirier’s skin.

In doing so, McGregor involved Poirier’s wife, Jolie, in the trash talk and shared screenshots of messages he received on Instagram from Jolie Poirier. This spilled over into the octagon when McGregor went at Dustin Poirier and his wife in his post-fight interview.

In a recent podcast with Teddy Atlas, Dustin Poirier shared his thoughts on McGregor’s comments. He said, “That was a little surprising. But this guy will go as far as—There’s no boundaries to this man’s talking and hype and stuff that he will do. I was surprised that with the broken leg he was sitting there still talking, but the things he said, I wasn’t surprised because he was talking crazy all week.”

‘The Diamond,’ continued, “Normally, for a second you see a glimpse of the normal person when that bell rings or on an injury like that, there’s a glimpse of that normal person. There was none there. It was the character. And maybe that’s him, I don’t know him personally. Maybe that’s 100 percent him” (h/t mmafighting.com)

Conor McGregor made a name for himself in his initial UFC days. This was largely due to his skills with a microphone in his hands and his ability to back up everything he said with stunning performances inside the octagon. ‘The Notorious’ always engaged in trash talk and mental warfare from day one.

However, it was always limited to the fighter he was facing and his coaching team. Family, religion, and politics were never involved up until his fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov. Ahead of UFC 229, ‘The Notorious’ held nothing back. UFC supremo Dana White also admitted that he did not like when family was brought into trash talk between two fighters.

Do you think Conor McGregor crossed lines by going at Dustin Poirier and his family? Let us know in the comments below!
