Sean O’Malley was one of many fighters at UFC 260 to secure impressive stoppage wins. The only difference is ‘Sugar’ did it not once, but twice against Thomas Almeida. O’Malley has garnered a lot of hype in the short time that he has been with the UFC.
Ever since his debut on Dana White’s Contender Series, his precise striking along with his personality has made him a fan favorite in the UFC.
However, in his fight prior to Almeida, he was stopped by Marlon Vera as the latter landed devastating leg kicks which severely compromised O’Malley. This was his first loss as a professional, and one that he believes was not a loss but a ‘freak incident’. Nonetheless, he had a lot to prove this weekend and won the fight with style points.

In the clip, Rogan and Cormier can be heard criticizing O’Malley for attempting a walk-off KO in round one and not finishing the fight then and there itself. In the first round, ‘Sugar’ landed a high kick that had Almeida stunned.
He then followed it up with a left hand that dropped Almeida. ‘Sugar’ then walked away as he believed the fight was over, but the referee had not stopped the fight. Had he pounced on Almeida and hit him with some good shots, the fight would have most definitely ended in round one.

Nonetheless, O’Malley secured a finish in the third round with an inch-perfect left hook. Hence, he bounced back with style points to the win column to silence the doubters.
