2017 was probably one of the most turbulent years in recent history for NASCAR fans. Two of the most loved characters of the sport – Dale Earnhardt Jr and Jimmie Johnson left the sport, for good.

While Johnson moved on to other racing endeavors, Dale Jr chose a more relaxed life (in comparison). He chose to move to things like calling races and analyzing the sport for media companies. Dale Jr. also started working at full steam to make his entrepreneurial adventures more successful.

Some sections of fans began to believe that fame and money would change their favorite driver. But all those doubts and concerns were quelled on Christmas Day in 2019.

Amy Earnhardt, Dale Jr’s wife, posted a picture of a gift she got for Christmas. Junior had gifted her a 1966 El Camino! Amy loved the gift since she had wished for the car for a long time. Her post on Instagram clearly showed how excited she was.

“By far the best gift I’ve ever received,” she wrote. “Yes y’all, @dalejr surprised me with a 1966 El Camino! I’ve wanted one for as long as I can remember. And It’s perfect! Momma must have been a VERY good girl this year! 🥰”

She ended the post with, “Thank you honey so much! I LOVE it! Now let’s go to HomeGoods and fill this baby up!”

For the uninitiated, El Caminos are classic Chevys that were produced in the 60s through the 80s. They might look odd, but beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.

Dale Earnhardt Jr has a long history with Chevy

Chevy and Dale Jr. were a match made in heaven. The NASCAR legend has been an out-and-out Chevy man all his life and continues to be that way to this day.

Dale Jr has competed for multiple teams, the likes of Hendrick Motorsports and Richard Childress Racing, and has always raced in Chevrolets. Now, as the owner of JR Motorsports, he continues to give his patronage to the manufacturer, with the team running Chevys in both the Xfinity Series and the Truck Series.

His time with the manufacturer was immortalized in 2016 when, in collaboration with HMS, the company released a special edition Chevy Silverado. The special edition truck was made as a tribute to the #88 that Junior drove.

He said at the time of the launch to HMS’ website, “I had a lot of fun working on this with Hendrick Motorsports. I’ve always owned Chevy trucks, and for me, tricking them out is a large part of the fun of owning one.”
