A. J. Allmendinger has been enduring a challenging season with Kaulig Racing, and his frustration reached a boiling point during the Darlington Race this past Sunday. Starting from the 30th position, Allmendinger’s hopes for a strong performance were already dwindling. Unfortunately, his spotter’s false assurance only added fuel to the fire, leading to a frustrated outburst captured on race radio.

Surely, The Dinger has not had the season he expected with his team. Despite showing promise at times, the No. 16 Chevy has struggled to find consistent speed, leaving the driver and his team searching for answers. With each passing race, Allmendinger’s performance has arguably fallen short of expectations.

The Kaulig Racing Driver Had a Disappointing Darlington Race

The Darlington Race proved to be yet another disappointment for Allmendinger and his team. Starting from the 30th position with a lack of long-run magic, the prospects of a significant turnaround were nearly non-existent.

Adding to Allmendinger’s frustration was his spotter’s false assurance. When the #16 driver expressed, “We’re terrible,” Frank Deiny, attempted to calm Allmendinger’s concerns by stating, “Copy that. Nothing really to worry about out back right here.”

However, instead of finding solace in these words, frustrated Allmendinger’s response was a savage three-word outburst: “Except my sanity.”

Allmendinger’s frustration is understandable given the setbacks he has faced. Although he managed to recover with 18th and 14th place finishes at Dover and Kansas, respectively, his poor qualifying performances have consistently hindered his chances of contending. The lack of speed and the inability to consistently challenge for top positions have taken a toll on Allmendinger and his team.

Kyle Larson made his first start of the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season at Darlington Raceway on Saturday, driving the No. 10 Chevrolet for Kaulig Racing.

Darlington Raceway, famously known as “Too Tough to Tame,” has been a challenging venue for Larson in the past. Despite consistently running well, he has never claimed victory in either the Cup Series or the Xfinity Series at this 1.366-mile oval in Darlington, South Carolina.

In Saturday’s Shriners Children’s 200, Larson faced adversity when a pit road speeding penalty dropped him to 31st place. However, he quickly recovered and maneuvered through the field to position himself for a potential win in the final stages of the race. The closing laps witnessed an intense battle between Larson and John Hunter Nemechek.

The two drivers raced side by side, making contact as they fought for the lead. Nemechek nearly lost control of his car, but managed to challenge Larson in the final turn. Unfortunately, Larson’s car bounced off the wall and made contact with Nemechek, causing the latter to spin.

Despite the contact, Larson maintained his momentum and crossed the finish line ahead of his rivals, securing the victory in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Darlington Raceway.

Despite the Win with Larson, looking ahead, Allmendinger and Kaulig Racing will need to regroup and find solutions to improve their performance. The disappointing results and frustrations experienced throughout the season should serve as motivation to make necessary adjustments and come back stronger in future races. While Allmendinger’s talents as a road course specialist have been evident, the team will need to find ways to excel in other track types as well.
