In fact, for teams like Hendrick Motorsports, a fine would just be a drop in the water. During the recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Bubba Wallace‘s spotter had a solution that would make these penalties more effective so that no team messes up again.

During the conversation, Freddie Kraft mentioned, “Just lose the monetary side of it. Just start taking points from everybody. Like because that’s the only thing that’s going to get your attention. Like I just said, Hendrick don’t care about the $400,000 fine.”

“They don’t care about the crew chiefs not being there because they’re still there. But when you take 100 points away, they got back the only part of that penalty they were worried about.”

With the recent case of Hendrick Motorsports, the team was not bothered by the monetary fine. Instead, they were fuming about the massive points dock they had been initially awarded. For any team or driver who is in the wrong, a points penalty would be harsh enough to not have them repeat the offense. The repercussion is the loss of a chance at playoffs.
