The Earnhardt family is known for its sheer legacy in the world of racing. From Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s 7 Cup Series championships to Dale Jr.’s back-to-back Xfinity championships, racing is in their DNA. Kelley Earnhardt Miller is Dale Jr.’s sister and the oldest daughter of Dale Sr. Her son, Wyatt Miller, is quite a well-known name and was recently seen at the 40th Tulsa Shootout, keeping his family’s legacy alive.
Wyatt has been an avid lover of the tracks since his childhood. He won his first race at Sebastian Speedway in Gladstone, IL and since then there has been no looking back. His list of achievements includes the 2023 English Creek Outlaw Nationals 250 Champion and Happy Rock Rumble Outlaw 250 Champion. He also secured the 2022 Millbridge Speedway Restricted Micro Championship. Recently, as he concluded his Tulsa Shootout run, the 12-year-old could not help but be grateful to his team and partners after a positive but trophyless year.

Miller looks back at his 2025 Tulsa Shootout experience
Till now, Miller has already run for more than 600 micros, legendary cars, and finally Outlaw Karts in the year 2024 itself. Miller’s father, LW Miller is also an exceptionally well-known driver and has been a winner of the Late Model at least three times. Wyatt Miller’s latest stint was at Tulsa Shootout which ended after the ultimate race on January 4th. As Miller bid goodbye to the tracks, he could not help but express his gratitude towards the team that has been a rock-solid support to him.
Miller has run for the Winged Outlaw, Non-Wing Outlaw, Winged A-Class, and Stock Non-Wing divisions. He is also the reigning 2024 Tulsa Shootout Golden Driller Restricted Micro Champion. However, sadly, he could not bag a win in this year’s rendition. Speaking of his team, Miller wrote, “WHAT A WEEK IN TULSA 👏🏼From the start, my team gave me great cars to drive. I walked away with a heat race win, 3 qualifier lock-ins, a B-feature win, and made 2 A-features. I was the youngest driver to make an A-feature in the upper classes this year”. Given that Miller is a young chap, this is a remarkable feat to achieve.
Kelley Earnhardt’s son further highlighted the positives of his 2024 Tulsa appearance, noting his high finish in context to the number of entries. He notably finished amongst the top 25 in two races, which had over 250 entrants each. Miller also thanked his sponsors and his garage team for helping him have a smooth experience at Oklahoma.
Miller wrote, “Finished P22 in Winged Outlaw (275 entries) and P17 in Winged A-Class (404 entries). I gained a lot of experience and I am excited to next year to fight for a Golden Driller.Thank you to @ChadBoat and Sean from Apex Chassis for wrenching on my cars this week. I couldn’t do it without your knowledge and support. Thank you to Mike and Nikki at @tufcoflooring! It is an honor to carry Tufco Flooring on the side of my racecar”.

Kelley Earnhardt explains the helmet lore
For anyone who has seen the beautiful helmet that Wyatt Miller sported during the Tulsa Shootout, the design stood out. It included the number 3, a flamingo, and finally a cross on the back. To explain what is the significance of each of these symbols, Kelley took to her Instagram profile and shared the story
She said, “Someone asked about the significance of Wyatt’s helmet. Dale Earnhardt (3), Jesus (cross) and @jasonmcdougal69 (flamingo)”. In short, his helmet was a tribute to not only his legendary lateral grandfather Dale Earnhardt, but also a symbol of religious beliefs and homage to a Tulsa legend. The Jesus cross is particularly important as prayers have been a staple in the Earnhardt family. Dale Earnhardt had a Presbyterian minister, Rev Max Helton, pray with him before every race for 13 years.

For Jason McDougal, well, he is just a Tulsa Shootout legend. The driver won three Golden Drillers in one night in 2018 and set the motorsports world alight. McDougal even reposted Kelley’s story, writing, ‘flamingo breeder for life‘. The two families seem to be close and this was a touching tribute to the driver.
Miller’s performance at the “Mecca of Micros” was commendable and he will be soon able to make a larger impact if he continues with his dedication. Kelley is a mother who is extremely supportive of Wyatt Miller, irrespective of which genre of racing he wants to choose. What do you think of Wyat Miller at the 2025 Tulsa Shootout?
