On Sunday, Kyle Larson firmly stamped his authority at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In the process, he is now the proud owner of a Hendrick Motorsports record. To be precise, he has made the fewest starts in the team before taking his maiden win. As it turns out, Larson emerged as the victor in just his fourth race with the team.

With this, he has managed to overtake several other well-known Hendrick Motorsports alumni. This includes Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. The previous record-holder was Terry Labonte, who won on his seventh start for Hendrick Motorsports.

How does everyone stack up behind Kyle Larson?

After Labonte, Geoff Bodine and Mark Martin took their maiden Hendrick Motorsports win in their eighth start. This means that they sit third and fourth respectively, behind Larson and Labonte. Completing the top five is Casey Mears, who took 12 race starts to bag his first Hendrick win.

Mears is tied with Kasey Kahne on 12 races before his first Hendrick win. Beyond that, Tim Richmond and Jimmie Johnson took 13 races to get up to speed and grab their first wins. Dale Earnhardt Jr needed 15 race starts before he reached Victory Lane for the first time. Finally, Ken Schrader went 16 races into his Hendrick Motorsports career before he took his maiden win.

All in all, Kyle Larson has set a record that will be hugely difficult to beat. This win also means that he has fully redeemed himself for his questionable actions in 2020. Those actions saw him get suspended from NASCAR for the remainder of the year.

After his repentance, the Hendrick Motorsports team took a gamble and decided to cash in their chips on him. Needless to say, Larson is steadily repaying the faith that HMS is placing on him in the 2021 season.
