Las Vegas Motor Speedway Cup Race Marks Special Milestone for Kurt and Kyle Busch

Ahead of the Las Vegas Cup Series race, home heroes Kurt Busch and Kyle Busch knew that this race was special. Aside from being their stomping ground, the two siblings reached an incredible milestone in their careers. While the 2004 Cup Series champion was competing in his 750th Cup Series start, the 2015 and 2019 Cup Series champion was taking part in his 600th race start.

Needless to say, both of them enjoyed a reasonably good day in the office at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Kyle Busch missed out on the win, but managed to finish third, with him and Denny Hamlin sandwiching Chase Elliott. Meanwhile, Kurt Busch finished the South Point 400 in 8th place.

Out of the two of them, only Kyle is in the running for the Cup Series championship. The older sibling got eliminated in the Round of 16 last weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway. So, the younger Busch will be carrying the family torch for a little while longer, as he bids for a third title.

What next for Kurt and Kyle Busch?

At the moment, Kurt Busch is only interested in seeing out his Chip Ganassi Racing contract. Next year, he will join 23XI Racing alongside current driver Bubba Wallace. Meanwhile, the Chip Ganassi Racing team will cease its NASCAR Cup Series operations, as Trackhouse Racing has bought the charter.

On the other side of the fence, Kyle Busch will train all of his focus on the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series campaign. Last year, his championship challenge was fairly weak, so he will be seeking redemption for his poor form in 2020, and he is already doing a splendid job of it.

However, Busch Jr will have to be wary of all of his rivals in the current Playoff battle. The #18 Joe Gibbs Racing driver sits third in the standings for the moment, and just one slip-up could throw his challenge in jeopardy.
