NASCAR Insider Explains Why a “Dialed In” Jimmie Johnson Had to Borrow Teammate’s Race Suit

Jimmie Johnson is a madman. Seriously, the former Hendrick Motorsports driver is 47, he’s in contention for the NASCAR GOAT conversation, and he’s statistically sitting above most from the past, present, and possibly the future.

He has also competed in endurance racing along with a brief but impressive stint in INDYCAR.

So why is Jimmie Johnson back in NASCAR again?

Simple. He loves racing; he loves NASCAR, and NASCAR loves him back. That’s why the seven-time Cup champion announced his return to the main stage in a different role, that of a part owner and ‘occasional’ driver from 2023 for Petty GMS.

And now, as his return to action comes near, Johnson has begun work for the next chapter in his ridiculously impressive career.

The veteran repeat-rookie responded to a tweet from his new team that said, “Starting to get real” along with pictures of Johnson in which he is probably taking part in the seat fitting.

“Getting dialed in,” wrote the seven-timer.

An odd and funny aspect noticed on Jimmie Johnson on his first day at work at Petty GMS

Even though Jimmie Johnson is a certified NASCAR legend, it’s funny how sometimes even the greatest of them all find themselves in oddly funny situations. While all the attention was on him getting inside the racecar, something stuck out about Johnson.

He didn’t look right. Or, to be more precise, his race suit didn’t look right.

This is because his clothing wasn’t really his. It belonged to Erik Jones.

Now, now, Jimmie Johnson not having his own race suit could be a big deal, but the reason why he didn’t on this particular day is only because of the man himself.

According to journalist Bob Pockrass, the reason for the former #48 driver to be wearing Jones’ race suit was, “Since he was doing a seat fitting, Jimmie Johnson wanted to be in a firesuit so he borrowed one of Erik’s to do this…”

Going forward, NASCAR, NASCAR fans, and possibly all the teams and drivers will undoubtedly be psyched for Johnson’s return to the sport behind the wheel, which will start with an attempt at the Daytona 500.

Expectations will definitely be high.

But still, for the sake of humor, it’s worth anticipating whether Jimmie Johnson shows up in his own race suit or not.
