Ross Chastain, known for his aggressive driving style, found himself at the center of controversy once again after a wreck during the first stage of the Dover race on Sunday. The incident involved Chastain bumping into Brennan Poole’s car, which sent Poole into the outside wall, causing a chain-reaction also ruining Kyle Larson‘s run.

This comes after Kyle Busch expressed his opinion that the NASCAR garage area has lost its previous atmosphere. Busch was asked about the incident between Denny Hamlin and Ross Chastain, in which Hamlin intentionally bumped Chastain. Commenting on the matter, Busch remarked that drivers no longer follow the etiquette that the previous generation of drivers adhered to. This ‘Lack of Respect’ attitude was exemplified by Chastain’s behavior and fans are demanding that Chastain be held accountable for his actions.

Ross Chastain Causes Multi-Car Crash Involving Brennan Poole and Kyle Larson

On Lap 81, Chastain bumped the rear of Poole’s car, sending Poole up the track and into the outside wall. Larson rolled into the crash area with nowhere to go and slammed into Poole. Poole was forced to leave the race, while Larson returned after repairs.

As per NASCAR.NBC Sports, Chastain quickly apologized to his crew, saying, “I did not mean to do that at all.” After the race, he apologized again to Poole and his team, promising to make things right.

Poole was left frustrated by the incident, saying, “It seems to be something (Chatain) does a lot recently. Just uncalled for. It was my first time in a new Cup car, and 80 laps out… for what?”

Larson was also left disappointed. As per heavy.com, he said, “It was the first stage. I could see if it was the last stage and guys are coming behind you, but I don’t know. It seemed like he got in a hurry and ran right into the back of that guy into [Turn] 1.”

Fans took to social media to express their frustration with Chastain’s behavior on the track. Many were upset that he seemed to have no regard for the safety of his fellow drivers and that he continued to wreck people despite claiming that he didn’t mean to do it.

SiriusXM NASCAR Host on track, Daniella Trota tweeted, “Unbelievable. First cup start this year for Brennan Poole having a fantastic run and just gets run over by Ross Chastain. How long is Ross gonna be able to just wreck people, have zero respect for anyone else & claim he didn’t mean to do it ??”

A fan called for NASCAR to take action and replied, “Danielle, the #RossChastain situation needs #NASCAR to do something that would prevent #Chastain from these blatant acts of dumping others & total disregard for safety. A shame Tony Stewart & Carl Edwards are retired, as those two would have had Ross behaving like an Angel.”

Several others also criticized Chastain’s apologies, saying that they were insincere and that he didn’t seem to learn from his mistakes. One fan said, “His awe shucks ole golly I’m sorry bs gets old week after week. Like Larson said it never seems to affect him negatively and he keeps on going. Drivers need to start policing this bs.”

Another fan added, “It’s gonna take him getting doses of his own medicine on a weekly basis. It’s time the other drivers get payback.” 

Chastain’s has caused multiple crashes, and fans are growing tired of his constant apologies without any change in behavior. It remains to be seen what action NASCAR will take, but fans are hoping that the organization will take a stand against reckless driving on the track.
