Tony Stewart shuts down prospects of getting wealthier

At the TheBubbaArmy podcast, the American semi-retired professional driver was asked if he had anything to do with FloRacing. He outright denied any involvement, aside from the fact that the organization was their broadcasting partner. One of the podcasters then fantasized about how Stewart would have been richer if he was involved with the company.

The three-time Cup Series champion then said, “Richer? God, you obviously haven’t seen the bills I pay on these race teams. I went from comfortable to not as comfortable. I mean, I’m not ramen noodles, I’m not there yet.”

How much does it cost for Tony Stewart to run a racing team?

Stewart brings up the conversation about the costs surrounding a racing team during the podcast. But how much would it cost to field a team like Stewart-Haas Racing on the Cup Series grid? We all know that motorsports in general are an expensive affair. But if someone like Stewart talks about being not as comfortable because of owning a racing team, we know the costs would be massive.

Apparently, back in 2014 it was estimated that SHR would be spending upwards or around the $1.4 million mark, per race. Yup, not even a season. That’s just for a single race. However, that is from nearly a decade ago, the costs would have been much higher now.

Another thing to consider is that a totaled car would easily diminish an additional half a million dollars. Moreover, in a sport like NASCAR, getting involved in a wreck is something that happens out of the blue.

There are several other factors to take in when calculating costs. However, racing teams, in general, do not reveal their expenditures to the public. Hence, it rarely happens that one gets the full picture of the economics behind fielding a racing team. No wonder NASCAR teams are so reliant on sponsor money.
