Following the unceremonious exit of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant in the last season, the Brooklyn Nets‘ Big-3 came to a complete end. The fall of the Big 3 began when James Harden made a surprise exit to the Philadelphia 76ers in 2022. These abrupt endings made a huge impact on the team, as they barely made it to the playoffs in 2023.

However, the Nets’ first win of the season against the Charlotte Hornets has opened the way for the possibility of the next big-3, Ben Simmons, Mikal Bridges, and Cam Thomas. After losing two close games against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks, the Nets produced a dominant win. Will they carry forward the momentum?

22-year-old Cam Thomas has been the offensive leader of the team so far, averaging 33 points in three games. Notably, he came off the bench for the first game against the Cleveland Cavaliers and dropped 36 points. Contributing to the Nets’ win, he scored 33 points, out of which 19 points came in the second half, which hints at his reliability in clutch situations.

2. Ben Simmons keeping up the promise

On the other hand, Ben Simmons has shown promising signs and sparks of improvement in the three games. The point guard looked promising and delivered what he promised. Importantly, the Australian baller could reach the All-Star status again. Interestingly, he promised the Nets fan a surprise during the offseason.

Finally, the third of the big-3, Mikal Bridges. He has proven to be a menace on both ends of the court. The star maintained an average of 20 points and 5 rebounds in 3 games. This trio could mature into one of the strongest trios in the coming games, if not in the coming seasons.

Moreover, a team isn’t only about its top 3 players, there are supporting casts as well. For the Nets, their supporting cast is a collection of players that bring different skills to the team, making a very well-rounded unit. Three other names to look out for in the roster are Dorian Finney-Smith, Lonnie Walker IV, and Spencer Dinwiddie. These supporting casts have delivered crucial points for the team from the bench while the Big 3 are not on the court. Especially, Lonnie Walker IV, who made a name for himself when he played a crucial role in eliminating the Golden State Warriors in the Conference semifinals for the Lakers. He came up with an outburst of points in the 4th quarter to disrupt the Warriors’ lead. He could come in handy for the team from the bench. It’s just the initial few games of the league, more to be discovered in the games to come.
