When the Toronto Raptors traded Pascal Siakam, it raised a lot of eyebrows and caused enormous speculations about the franchise. But when the dust settled, the intentions of the Raptors became clear. The franchise was looking to do a full squad rebuild, and they started it off by trading OG Anunoby and now Pascal Siakam.

Even though Siakam was the key component of the team during their 2019 championship run, by trading him, the Raptors showed that they are more interested in future assets than some short-term success. However, through the finalization of this deal, the team that strategically benefited was the San Antonio Spurs

According to The Atheltic, the Siakam trade only added more advantages for the Spurs, giving them additional options for roster development in the future because they have the top six protected first-rounds of the Raptors as part of Jakob Poeltl’s deal they made last year. And due to having 15 first-round draft picks between 2024 and 2030 of their own, the Spurs have established themselves as an asset powerhouse.

Victor Wembanyama, the 2023 draft first pick for the San Antonio Spurs, was one of the NBA’s most-awaited debuts. He had been performing exceptionally well in the Pro A division. The 20-year-old packed an entire stadium for his debut and scored 15 points, with 2 assists, and also managed to get 5 rebounds.

Due to his 7-foot-4 stature and his athleticism, the Spurs see potential in the young rookie and are observing his play to find the right additions to their roster and build a team around him.

Also, the Spurs are financially flexible due to which they can get experienced players that complement Wembanyama and can immediately contribute to the success of the team. Also, due to the surplus of draft picks they possess, they will be able to get promising rookies into their squad and create a solid core team. With this, the San Antonio Spurs can turn themselves into a formidable force in the NBA and make their team a desired destination for all types of players.
