Anthony Edwards is rapidly becoming one of the biggest rising stars in the NBA. The Timberwolves guard has taken a giant leap this season and helped Minnesota become one of the top teams in the Western Conference. After witnessing Edwards’ star power, many have projected him to be the ‘Next Face of the NBA’ and even deemed him the second coming of Michael Jordan. However, a glaring problem in Anthony Edwards’ personality is causing the MJ comparisons to fizzle down.

Edwards seemingly has a punctuality problem. Ant-Man was late for last Monday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers and had to witness the tip-off from the scorer’s table. The late arrival led to Edwards’ first start from the bench since his rookie season. Just a week after the incident, Edwards was late again for the second half of tonight’s Clippers game. Analyst Jake Shapiro highlighted Edwards’ problem in his latest tweet and disregarded him because of his lack of seriousness, “Yall anointing Edwards the next MJ … dude has TWICE been late to the court this season. He’s so unserious, he doesn’t have the thing so many people say he does.”

According to Shapiro, Edwards is not serious enough to take on the superstar role and join the elite ranks of Michael Jordan. The 22-year-old might have the skill and athleticism of a young MJ, but he lacks Jordan’s killer mentality. After Edwards got late for the game against the Blazers, he simply said that he “lost track of time.” Edwards’ casual attitude also came to light during the 2024 All-Star Weekend. He shot the ball left-handed during the Skills Challenge, costing his team the win.

Even MJ’s arch-rival Reggie Miller was unhappy with Edwards’ attitude during commentary, “Come on Man! Shoot it regular.”

Anthony Edwards is a superstar on the court

While fans can question Anthony Edwards’ seriousness off the court, his talent on the court is undeniable. Edwards is having an MVP-caliber season for the Timberwolves, averaging 26.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5 assists. The 22-year-old has become a young leader for Minnesota and is doing everything to keep them afloat in Karl-Anthony Towns’ absence. Even in tonight’s game against the Clippers, Edwards helped his team make a 22-point comeback, leading them to an impressive 118-100 victory.

Edwards went off in the third quarter and finished with a game-high 37 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Even after Rudy Gobert left the game due to an injury, Edwards did not let the Clippers capitalize and make a comeback. With KAT sout for a significant time, Anthony Edwards has a chance to prove the critics wrong and live up to the MJ comparison by leading the Timberwolves to a title. A successful playoff run might also take the attention away from Ant-Man’s punctuality problem.
